Known as micro-blogging, imagine putting an entire thought under 140 characters. It has become such a powerful tool that it has even influenced how we conduct our lives daily. With the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone has been designed for mobile social networking with its built-in wifi and 3G capabilities, the phenomenon known has Twitter is a welcome fit to this unit. Though we are still waiting for an official Twitter application for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone (such as the YouTube application released by Google a few days ago), different software companies have release Twitter-related software. Mojos Studios gives us Twittix.

Twittix by Mojos Studios for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone has put all the functions the Twitter desktop has namely tweeting, reply tweeting, sending a direct message, following and “unfollowing” a user or person. It gives you a list of your followers and the people your follow in real-time. Fit in tabbed view, you can check out your replies, timelines, messages, favorites, followers and followings. Twittix can accommodate landscape and portrait mode so you can Tweet in any way you want. You can check out the 411 on the user you are following or are following you. Want to find a person to Tweet and see if he does have an account? Go and search for them insing Twittix.

Compared to other Twitter-related applications out there, Twittix is one of the few that has the closest thing to the original online product in terms of features. I have no qualms about it. It is just like what I would use it when Twitter is on my computer browser. However, I’m not so sure about the interface. It is the 21th century and an application’s interface adds to the magic of its use. The folks of Mojos Studios still have room to improve with Twittix’s look. If they only took a page from Stew, then they would have a very powerful product. But if you are not much into eye candy and more into usage, then this is the Twitter application for you.

Twittix by Mojos Studios for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone only comes in English and German. Other than the ones who use character language, I am pretty sure you can adapt to the English version since it is quite straightforward. The term Twitter or Twitt is practically the same to anyone around the world. I think we won’t have much of a problem in this category unless you’re very picky.

Twittix by Mojos Studios for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone gets points for functionality and features. Graphical User Interface (GUI) needs some face lifting. I am sure they can do something about that.

Twittix by Mojos Studios for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone sells for $6.45. Compared to the free Twitter-related applications out there, you will shell some dollars for some nifty features. If you are not sure in buying it, why not try it out first?

Various games are appearing left and right at the Ovi Store which are becoming better and better. This one we will be reviewing is a FREE download but is a Demo version of the real game. It is a glimpse of the type of action you can experience by purchasing the FULL GAME. If you like games that involve flying and has guns and explosions, then SKY FORCE is for you for your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone.

What is Sky Force?

Sky Force is a “Free to try” game from Infinite Dreams. It let you become the fighter pilot of a spacecraft packed with heavy machinery, weapons and special feature armaments. Each level has special missions that you need to accomplish to get to the next level.

You will be battling different enemies on each level. For starters, there will be other fighter crafts that will try to destroy you both on land and in the air. There are land-to-air missile launchers and other weapons meant only for your destruction.

The way to navigate your sleek red fighter craft is by moving your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. The game uses the accelerometer of the phone. No need to worry about tapping the screen to launch your weapons. The fighter craft automatically fires for you. All you need to do is just point your craft in the right direction and blast your enemies to kingdom come.

If you want to use the touch screen for directions, you can switch it using the options page. But it would be easier if you just leave it to “Accel” mode.

At the end of every stage, you will be fighting the “boss” character. In this case, it’s a big mean machine ready to eat you alive. But you still have a chance to destroy him. Just dodge the things he’s dishing out.

My Take on Sky Force

Sky Force is a great game to play. No wonder it was awarded by Best Software of 2007 by the Smartphone and Pocket PC awards. It is now back with new enemies and new weapons.

Controls are good in Sky Force. You just have to get used to the way the accelerometer works. It’s like trying to balance a ball. You don’t want to tilt the phone too much or the momentum might shift the spacecraft too much. It is good that the programmers made the firepower shooting automatic. At least, I just have to focus on the direction of my spacecraft. Learn the physics of this game and you will be victorious.

Though it’s a 2D game, you will appreciate the simplicity of the graphics. The shadows and the lighting give the games an awesome look. The sound and sound effects are excellent. Though it either blasts you back to the 80’s, it’s still a great game to play.

My Verdict on Sky Force

Yes. It is just a one level game since it’s a free-to-try game. But at least it gives you a glimpse of what this game can offer. This can bring loads of hours of gameplay to your Nokia 5800 phone. Not a lot of people may like this demo version but it does show you that it can be worth the price.

Now the only thing that bothers me is that the game intro shot shows a helicopter but the game has a spacecraft. Go figure.

The Sky Force game is a try-to-buy demo software that can be downloaded for FREE at the Ovi Store. Just register to access the site. You can also download this application straight to your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone by installing the Ovi Store Application.

But we would like to give you another alternative that may suit your calendar needs: the Handy Calendar for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone.
The Handy Calendar for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone is a small yet powerful calendar and timekeeping system that lets you keep track of the significant events such as meetings, birthdays and dates.

The Handy Calendar for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone accommodates you to cut, copy and paste the existing events in case you changed your mind. There are also hot key/shortcut keys available for more experienced users allowing you to speed up the process. The application lets you personalize all views and application behaviors for that unique and individual experience. How about zooming text size in all views for better visibility and larger screen capacity? This is perfect for those with eye problems. You can insert your contacts, messages, locations and notes when composing your entries. This is something that the built-in Calendar does not have.

The Handy Calendar for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone lets you view your calendar via Month, Week and Day. The Month and Week displays the important dates with icons that are handy for quick view situations. Workload for the day is show by the number of dots on the specific date. This depends on how many events you have for that day. If you have a full schedule for the day, the dots can fill up one square. A slow day just takes about two. Via Month view, you have a pretty good idea if you need to chew lots of your vitamins for that day.

The task view allows you to see all your tasks. Consider this your “To Do” list. Sorting is easy. Choose to read it by due date, subject or priority. You can even filter your tasks using predefined filters such as all, active, overdue, today, next 7 days, undated and complete. Perfect for seeing which one needs to be done first. This is very handy especially when you want to prioritize which tasks must be done first. Efficiency is the key.

Because The Handy Calendar for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone uses the same database as built-in Calendar application, this permits you to synchronize or “sync” your calendar entries with Microsoft Outlook entries or OSX iCal and vice versa.

Want to organize your business and private life – Handy Calendar is the best companion.
The Handy Calendar for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone carries an international selection of languages including English, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Croatian, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Latin American Spanish, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Serbian, Turkish, Ukrainian and Finnish. Now, no one in the world has an excuse not to miss an appointment using the Handy Calendar for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone.

The Handy Calendar for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone is an excellent application that can be used in both PC and Mac platforms and is available for only USD $29.95.
